Abstract - The evolution of the genus Otomys (Rodentia, Muridae) in East Africa during Plio-Pleistocene times is described here and compared to the South African one. An evolutionary scenario taking into account other rodent lineages in the same region is proposed here. The center of origin of Otomys is in South Africa and the genus then dispersed throughout the North, arriving first in Tanzania, at around 1.8 My and then in Ethiopia, at around 0.6 Ma. There are two speciation events, around 2.5 My and 1 My and these could be related to the important global climatic changes known in these times.
Résumé - L'histoire évolutive des espèces du genre Otomys (Rodentia, Muridae) est retracée pour le Plio-Pléistocène d'Afrique orientale et comparée à celles des formes australes. Un scénario évolutif, commenté à la lueur de l'évolution des autres lignées de rongeurs de la même région, est proposé. Originaire d'Afrique australe où il s'est différencié autour de 4 à 3 Ma, le genre se disperse progressivement vers le Nord, d'abord à 1,8 Ma en Tanzanie puis à 0,6 Ma en Ethiopie. Il connaît deux phases de spéciations autour de 2,5 et 1 Ma qui pourraient être mises en relation avec les épisodes climatiques globaux connus à cette époque.
